deGrom's Hall of Fame peak... how long would it take to get the writers to elect him to Cooperstown?
I think we can all agree that Jacob deGrom is pitching at a Hall of Fame level right now. But let's be realistic here... how long do you think deGrom would need to stay at this inhuman peak he's currently atbefore he has a good chance of getting elected to the Hall of Fame by the writers? Because right now it will be an uphill battle with his case purely a "peak" argument a la Sandy Koufax. Bear in mind that he's going to turn 33 in a month and a half, only broke into the majors just before his 26th birthday, and plays for a team that seemingly refuses to give him run support and/or hold leads for him and that he is bound to for another 3 years. This isn't even factoring in an injury/(ies) potentially cutting a beautiful thing short. If you need a refresher on his stats, here's his Baseball Reference page. EDIT: I think you guys need to look back to the last time a pitcher whose HOF case was like what deGrom's case will end up being (purely on a nutso peak with some shiny Cys and another one that should have rightfully been his)–Johan Santana–came on the ballot. He was one-and-done with 2.4% of the vote in 2018. The writers don't like "peak guys". View Poll
