themuse.jezebel.comHere's the Nicki Minaj Song With the Contested Tracy Chapman SampleNicki Minaj and Nas teamed up for “Sorry,” a track which pushed back her release date for Queen and didn’t make the album because, according to Minaj’s since-deleted tweets, Tracy Chapman had not approved a sample. “Sis said no 🤷🏽♀️,” she wrote, presumably about Chapman, in a tweet noticed by Pitchfork. She’d also tweeted, and then deleted, back in July:
themuse.jezebel.comOn Queen, Nicki Minaj Serves PawnsFour years ago, Nicki Minaj shook the rap world so thoroughly, her haters never got over it. She spoke of her future with clarity and precision—plans to have a child and get married. She told a true story of heartbreak and falling in love—a story that even now continues to haunt her, as she spends her current album rollout arguing back and forth on Twitter with her ex. There exists no black woman who’s unaware of how many lives she will live before she dies. And if you are blessed with black women in your community, you’ve more than likely seen one go through crisis. While back then, it seemed the Barbie was ready to grow up and past her strife, the Queen of today seems to have lost her vigor and purpose.
themuse.jezebel.comMatthew Newton Will No Longer Direct Jessica Chastain's Eve, Addresses Past AbuseDirector Matthew Newton announced on Friday that he’s stepping down from Eve—the Jessica Chastain-helmed action movie announced at the top of the year—after backlash about his history of abuse towards his partners, which he’s spoken about publicly and admitted to in the past.
themuse.jezebel.com2 Costume Drama Nerds Watch A Room With a View, the Pinnacle of the Form It’s an iconic moment in the canon of romantic cinema, perhaps the iconic moment: George Emerson striding through an Italian poppy field to plant one on Lucy Honeychurch to the swelling sounds of Puccini. And somehow, until recently, I had just... never gotten around to watching A Room With a View.

themuse.jezebel.comStephanie Mills to Sam Smith After Michael Jackson Slam: 'Go Sit Your 1 HIT WONDER Ass Down'Powerhouse singer/legend Stephanie Mills has a mellifluous chirp like no other—and, apparently, talons. She wielded them Sunday to drag Brit soul-esque singer Sam Smith, who it seems has his foot in his mouth nearly as often as he has a mic next to it.
themuse.jezebel.comThe Real Housewives of Potomac Cast Continues to Top Their Reunion Outfits in the Worst WayThe Real Housewives reunion couch is a place where dreams and nightmares collide. It’s a place for the cast to show off their most woefully glamorous outfits. It’s a night where everyone’s outfit is some dreadful combination of wedding, prom night, Cinderella ball, and Super Sweet 16 gone wrong. What’s most impressive and exciting is that the cast learns little to nothing from past style mistakes, so year after year, their outfits remain a marvelous mess—awful in the most inspiring way—as evidenced on Sunday night in part one of the Real Housewives of Potomac reunion.
themuse.jezebel.comMichaela Coel Is About to Get Real Serious in the BBC War Crimes Drama Black Earth RisingMichaela Coel is back—no, not for Chewing Gum Season 3, not yet. We can pray that comes soon. But until then, she’ll be starring alongside John Goodman in a new BBC show, Black Earth Rising, which based on the trailer, is... a bit grisly compared to Tracey Gordon’s antics on Chewing Gum.
themuse.jezebel.comLaura Dern May Be the Latest Addition to Greta Gerwig's Little Women Adaptation Laura Dern is reportedly in talks to pile onto Greta Gerwig’s upcoming adaptation of Little Women. Yes, this is the third Little Women adaptation either recently released or currently in the works, but it’s certainly the most star-studded.
themuse.jezebel.comIt's Alright, I Don't Wanna Be Saved by the BellA lot can change in a few years. Feelings toward a potential reboot of a beloved early ’90s teen show, for one—and its dweeby co-star Screech could be arrested twice (once for stabbing a guy), serve his time and be placed on probation, for another. So is the story of Saved by the Bell. You might remember Tiffani Amber Thiessen, who played Kelly Kapowski on the hit program, telling Entertainment Weekly in 2016 that a revival would never, ever go down. But that might not matter because Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Zack Morris himself, isn’t counting it out. And since Screech is available now... there’s a possibility.

themuse.jezebel.comYou Don't Have to Watch SuccessionPerhaps, like myself, several people in your life have been telling you to watch this HBO show Succession. The dark comedy follows the shifty actions of the fictional Roy family who oversee a gigantic, super-rich media company with vague branches in theme parks and digital media, clearly inspired by businessmen like Sumner Redstone and Rupert Murdoch. Perhaps your dad is telling you to check out Succession, or your boyfriend’s best friend, or several pieces of content strewn across the web that compare it to shows you actually like, like Game of Thrones or Veep.
themuse.jezebel.comSlender Man Doesn't Have the Range When Sony Pictures announced that a movie based on Slender Man—a piece of Internet folklore circulated online around 2009—people were worried it was a shameless attempt to capitalize on the recent attempted murder trial in which two 12-year-old girls stabbed a classmate to impress the fictional creature. The film is already banned in Wisconsin, where the crime took place, and was deemed “distasteful” by the father of one of the girls involved. While there’s no arguing that the existence of Slender Man is tasteless, the final product is also harmless: a boring horror movie about a fleeting internet phenomenon that its intended audience has largely forgotten about.
themuse.jezebel.comThe Pus Will Continue to Flow in Season 2 of Dr. Pimple PopperDr. Pimple Popper, a show full of things I can’t quite believe that I’m seeing even though I tune in every week, will return for a second season in January 2019. themuse.jezebel.comAs a Man, the Trailer for Taraji P. Henson's What Men Want Is Actually What I WantIn the year 2000, writer-director Nancy Meyers released her only bad film, What Women Want, which went on to become the second highest grossing romantic comedy of all time (without adjustments for inflation). It starred Mel Gibson as a misogynist advertising executive who gained the ability to read the minds of women—and only women!!!—after being electrocuted in a bathtub by a hair dryer. By the end, he’s still a misogynist, but at least he used his new ability to fuck Marisa Tomei a couple of times, prevent Judy Greer from mayyyybe dying by suicide even though he was one of the reasons she was so miserable in the first place (a strange and dark climax!!!), and to get Helen Hunt to fall in love with him after getting her fired from her job as his boss!!!
themuse.jezebel.comInsatiable Is Worse Than Anyone Could've PredictedLong before Insatiable, Netflix’s latest original teen dark comedy, premiered on August 10, it was met with premature waves of criticism. Within five days of its trailer hitting YouTube, a Change.org petition called for its cancellation—the show’s apparent fat-shaming rhetoric made it prime bait for judgment. While all the external drama may be enough to court viewers, the creators’ promise of a redemptive storyline couldn’t save the show from not only realizing those critiques, but also bulldozing through various injustices while boring its audience into misery.
