Guess Who Is Back In The End Of The F***ing World Season 2...Warning: There are major spoilers for The End Of The Fucking World season 2 ahead. After much anticipation, our favorite dark, British comedy, The End Of The Fucking World is back for season 2. So much went down in the first season leaving us wondering if some of our favorite TEOTFW cast members are even in season 2. I mean, where do you go after the two protagonists of the show are left on a rural beach in England surrounded by an armed SWAT team? We’ve been waiting nearly two years to have our questions answered and now it's finally time to find out.The cast of the series is fairly small, so pretty much anything from this point on is a spoiler. (You've been warned.) Most of the first season centers around Alyssa (Jessica Barden) and James (Alex Lawther) going from teen runaways to murderers evading police all while on a journey to find Alyssa’s dad. They feel as though they are all alone in the world, which is reflected in the cast. This season, they are joined by some new characters such as Bonnie (Naomi Ackie) who has a complicated and mysterious connection to Alyssa. Click through to get to know the new and returning cast of The End Of The Fucking World.Jessica Barden Plays AlyssaAlyssa is hands down one of the best protagonists to come out of a show in a long time. She is complicated, funny, dark, and evolving. “A lot of the time a lot of the scripts you read, or sometimes the TV shows or films that you watch, women are only being portrayed as only being one thing,” Barden told Refinery29 back in 2018. “You’re either vulnerable and you’re the girl who has her heart broken, or you’re the mean girl, or the funny girl. Alyssa is all of them — she’s what we’re all like. We’re all everything.” Someone who started out as a runaway searching for her father turned into an accidental fugitive trying to avoid capture with her boyfriend (who is probably a psychopath). “I’m 19, and I thought I’d already had the shittest day of my life,” she says in the season 2 trailer. You might know Jessica Barden from movies such as Hanna, Far From The Madding Crowd, and The Lobster. By the end of season 1, we questioned whether we would see James again, in part, because The End Of The Fucking World hadn’t been confirmed for a second season yet, but also because of one other tiny detail. The season 1 finale lead us to believe that James had been shot and killed by a SWAT team while evading arrest. After all, that is how the comic series the show is based on ends. From the moment that season 1 ended, fans weren’t convinced that James had been killed. How could one of the titular characters of such a compelling and unique story be gone after only one season? Now, after nearly two years of wondering, fans find out that their optimistic hope that James survived was not in vain. "It was a fitting end. A doomed love story. A perfect tragedy. And then I didn't die," James says in a voiceover. Alex Lawther has also been in The Imitation Game, Goodbye Christopher Robin, and season 3 of Black Mirror.Photo: Courtesy of Netflix.Naomi Ackie Plays BonnieBonnie is a bit of a mystery. Not just in her connection to Alyssa, but her whole life. From the first scene of season 2, she is on a mission. Bonnie has just been released from prison for "killing someone on purpose" and now she has her sights set on finding Alyssa and avenging the death of her former lover who happens to be the man Alyssa and James killed last season. While The End Of The Fucking World might be considered a breakout role for Naomi Ackie, it’s hardly the only big credit she bagged this year. Ackie is also set to be in the upcoming Star Wars film, Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker. Photo: John Phillips/Getty Images.Christine Bottomley Plays GwenGwen, Alyssa’s mom, is not painted in the best light in season 1. She is largely uninterested in connecting with her daughter and instead chooses to spend her time focusing on her new life with her new husband and their twin babies. Now, Gwen is also having a difficult time adjusting to the repercussions of Alyssa's misadventures. Her husband Tony left (honestly, good riddance) and her daughter is now a local celebrity for all the wrong reasons. You might know Christine Bottomley from EastEnders, Land Girls, and Midsomer Murders.Photo: Courtesy of Netflix.Steve Oram Plays PhilPhil is James’ dad, and while he seems unobtrusively nice, James detests him. He doesn’t like his jokes or his general presence at all. It is an almost perfect opposite to Alyssa’s home life. She craves attention from a parent who is not giving it, while James irrationally hates the attention he gets from his dad. On some level, Phil seems aware of his son’s dislike of him, but he seeks to protect him regardless. In season 2, Phil can be found at James' bedside attempting to be as supportive as possible but usually "eating or crying, often at the same time." Steve Oram is also known for his roles in Sightseers, The World’s End, and Welcome to the Punch. Photo: Courtesy of Netflix.Gemma Whelan Plays DC Eunice NoonDC Eunice Noon is one half of the will-they-won’t-they detective duo tracking down Alyssa and James. Unlike her investigative partner, Noon takes a softer and more forgiving approach when she finds Alyssa and James just ahead of the SWAT team in the season 1 finale. She offers her help in the hopes they might be able to get a more lenient sentence if they cooperate. As we know from the suspenseful season 1 finale, that doesn’t go over well. With all this going on, we still haven’t forgotten that Whelan and her partner, DC Teri Donoghue, apparently hooked up. Whelan seems to want more and Donoghue openly wishes it hadn’t happened. Season 1 ends and we still don’t know what will happen between them. Gemma Whelan is best known for playing Yara Greyjoy in Game of Thrones. She was also in another Netflix favorite, The Crown, as Patricia Campbell in season 2. Photo: Courtesy of Netflix.Wunmi Mosaku Plays DC Teri DonoghueDC Teri Donoghue is charged with bringing in Alyssa and James in after they are connected with the murder of Clive Koch (Jonathan Aris). Compared to her partner Noon, Donoghue sees the crime at hand as black and white. She doesn’t have the same chance to overhear Alyssa’s explanation to her dad that Noon had. Donoghue believes the narrative she and Noon originally put together in their heads: James was the one responsible and that Alyssa was being held captive rather than being complicit. Where Noon believes there is more to the story, Donoghue is indifferent to the circumstances that got Alyssa and James into their situation. Perhaps, Noon and Donoghue aren’t as well-matched as we had hoped. Like Lawther, Mosaku also appeared in season 3 of Black Mirror. She was also in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Photo: Courtesy of Netflix.Tim Key Plays GusGus is new to season 2. A motel owner, Gus is Alyssa, James, and Bonnie's saving grace after their car breaks down in the middle of nowhere. At first, he seems merely peculiar; however, it turns out that he is a lot less odd and a lot more creepy. To keep things as mysterious and in the dark as possible, Gus was one of only two characters from the new season who were teased before the release. Tim Key is also known for his roles in I Give It A Year, The Double, and This Time With Alan Partridge. Josh Dylan Plays ToddAlyssa and her family move away from their hometown to avoid the unwanted attention Alyssa's misadventures brought them. When they go to live with Alyssa's aunt Leigh, Alyssa meets Todd. According to Alyssa, he's "kind of like a dog but in a good way." He doesn't challenge her, but he seems uncomplicated which is why Alyssa proposed they get married. You might know Josh Dylan from his role as young Bill in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again. Photo: Luca Teuchmann/WireImage.Alexandria Riley as LeighLeigh is Alyssa's aunt. After everything falls apart back in their hometown, Alyssa and her mother go to live with Leigh and start a new life. Alyssa also starts working for Leigh at her rural diner.Alexandria Riley is also in Bang and In My Skin as well as a number of other U.K. series, but like much of the cast of The End Of The Fucking World, she is new to U.S. audiences.Like what you see?
