Pioneer 11 made its closest approach to Jupiter's cloud tops OTD in 1974 at a distance of only 42,000 km (26,000 mi). The spacecraft took detailed images of the Great Red Spot and mapped Jupiter’s polar regions and went on to be the first probe to fly-by Saturn.
