Poet, playwright, and publisher, Amiri Baraka helped solidify the beginnings of the Black Arts Movement through his writings and activism. Baraka was a founder of the Black Arts Repertory Theatre/School in Harlem and Spirit House in his hometown of Newark, NJ.
